Biography

Sofia Samara

Dietitian – Nutritionist | MSc in Clinical Nutrition, UoG

Sofia Samara is a dietitian–nutritionist based in Volos, specialising in clinical nutrition. She holds a degree from the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Thessaly and an MSc in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Glasgow.

Her academic path combines clinical experience, evidence-based practice, and research. During her undergraduate studies she completed her placement at Volos General Hospital “Achillopouleio”, gaining experience in nutritional support for patients in a hospital setting. She also carried out research on nutritional management of patients with diabetes and adherence to dietary guidelines for diabetes, with results presented at two European conferences.

Seeking deeper, more specialised knowledge led her to complete the MSc Clinical Nutrition programme at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. During her postgraduate studies she joined a research team studying the role of nutrition in managing inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Her professional career combines clinical nutrition, education, and applying nutritional science across different settings. Since 2021 she has run a modern dietitian practice in central Volos. She also collaborates with gyms, sports clubs, and schools, providing nutritional support, education, and taking part in health and wellbeing initiatives.

Professional philosophy

The practice philosophy rests on three principles: evidence, personalisation, and sustainability. For Sofia, there is no one diet that fits everyone. Each person has different needs, habits, preferences, goals, and health requirements. Every nutritional intervention is designed around the individual, fully personalised, aiming for changes that are realistic, meaningful, and practical in daily life. Nutrition is not a temporary “strict diet”. It is a way to care for our body, support our health, and improve quality of life. Real change does not have to be harsh or punitive to be effective. It needs to be ours.
